I am a first generation American, born in a small town in Illinois. My parents came to the United States from Cuba, with only the clothes on their backs, looking for a better life. We moved to Tampa when I was a young child and I have lived here ever since. While attending Jesuit High School, I was taught that I should live my life as a "man for others". It was then that I decided that I wanted to become a lawyer so that I could help people.
After graduating from Stetson University College of Law, I began my career as a prosecutor at the State Attorney's office in Tampa. It was as an Assistant State Attorney, trying dozens of jury trials including first degree murder cases, that I developed the skills necessary to be a successful trial lawyer.
Since 1990, I have been a civil trial lawyer, handling cases throughout Florida in state and federal courts. I represented insurance companies, corporations and government entities in the past, yet I never received as much personal satisfaction as when I helped people in their fight to recover for their injuries and hold the wrongdoers accountable. When I am battling the insurance companies who refuse to treat my client fairly, I'm reminded of the quote from Mahatma Ghandi who said, "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you. Then you win".
